Long Cut

Contains the longest particle sizes. Used mainly for loose leaf applications, as when mixed with pieces of fruit, flowers or herbs. Moderate infusion rate.

Fine Cut

Mostly consists of the shortest of particles. Ideally suited for double chamber or pillow type teabags. Fast infusion rate.

Short Cut

Shorter particle sizes comprise the majority of this grade. Ideal when used for pillow teabags, but very versatile and also suitable same as for loose leaf application. Medium infusion rate.

Choice

A coarser mix of leaf and stem. Ideal when used with flavouring. Medium infusion rate.

About

As artisans we are naturally focused on the small detail that, when put together, makes all the difference.Our specialty is a single origin, high grown rooibos of note, directly from our Tanqua Rooibos Estate. We look forward to share a cup of rooibos with you.

Processing

Our rooibos is harvested from January to April. Harvesting is either by hand or machine, depending on the age of the plant. After harvesting, rooibos is machine cut. The cut leaf and stem particles range in length from 1-6mm. ​ Cut pieces are bruised and water is added to assist the fermentation process. Fermentation is an overnight process and range between 12 -14 hours. ​ Once fermentation is optimal, rooibos is sundried to reduce moisture to below 10%. ​ Dried rooibos is sieved to separate particles according to length to cater for different applications, ranging from loose leaf (Long sizes of rooibos) to double chamber teabag packaging (very short pieces of rooibos). ​ Finally, all rooibos is steam sterilised and certified in compliance with export regulation. ​ The fact that we are able to control the whole chain of events, normally required for an artisan to work his magic, allow us to create that special cup of rooibos dreams are made of.
